In Brentwood it is the opposite: active construction around and between the newer towers means loading zones move, approaches close temporarily, and the arrangement that worked on a job last season may not exist now, so we confirm current access rather than relying on memory. Lougheed sits between the two, mixing older stock with newer development. Naming the town centre when you book tells us which of the three conversations we need to have.
Burnaby Mountain and SFU
The university and the residential community beside it sit on top of Burnaby Mountain, and the climb is long enough that a fully loaded truck treats it as its own leg of the job. Two things follow. In winter the summit can be holding snow while the rest of the city is simply wet, so we check conditions at the top rather than for Burnaby as a whole. And the moving calendar up there is driven by the academic one, which means demand spikes hard at the start and end of terms and thins out between them. Booking early for those windows is worth more than it is almost anywhere else in the region.
Capitol Hill, Burnaby Heights and the older walk-ups
North Burnaby, along the ridge above the inlet, is a different city from the tower districts. Capitol Hill climbs steeply, and Burnaby Heights along Hastings holds a concentration of older low-rise walk-up apartments — no elevator, narrow stairwells, tight landings — on streets where parking is on-street only and genuinely contested. These jobs are not hard, they are simply slower than the same-size unit in a tower, and they need a parking plan rather than an elevator booking. It is the opposite skill set to a Metrotown move.
Parkade clearance and street-level loading
As in most tower districts, underground parkades through Metrotown and Brentwood are height-restricted below the height of a moving truck, so the truck stays at street level or in the designated loading bay and the crew works from there. That is routine and priced by the hour. What is worth knowing is that it changes the carry considerably in the larger complexes, where the distance from a legal parking spot to the residential elevator can be substantial.
