Surrey is Metro Vancouver's largest city by area, which means move distances within Surrey itself can be significant. A move from Whalley to South Surrey is a 30–40 minute drive — we factor in realistic travel time when estimating job duration so there are no surprises on the invoice.
Surrey has a diverse housing mix: newer townhouse complexes in Cloverdale and Willowbrook, high-density towers around King George and Surrey Central SkyTrain stations, established single-family homes in Fleetwood and Panorama Ridge, and newer builds in Grandview Heights and Morgan Creek.
What that mix actually means for a moving company is that Surrey asks for more different kinds of job than anywhere else we serve. City Centre and Whalley, Guildford, Fleetwood, Newton, Cloverdale and South Surrey each function as their own town, with their own housing era and their own density. They are not neighbourhoods of a single core in the way Burnaby's or Coquitlam's are — they are far enough apart that crossing between two of them is a proper drive. The practical consequence for a quote is that “Surrey” on its own tells us almost nothing. The town centre tells us the housing type, the likely crew size and the travel block in one answer.
Larger homes, and honest crew sizing
Surrey has a much higher proportion of four- and five-bedroom detached houses than the region as a whole, particularly through Panorama Ridge, Grandview Heights and Morgan Creek. Two movers can do those jobs; they simply should not. Past a certain volume a 2-mover crew is not cheaper, it is just slower — the hourly rate is lower and the hours grow enough to cancel it, with a longer day for everyone. We say so at quoting time rather than booking the smaller crew and letting the clock make the argument.
Three-storey townhouses and gated complexes
The newer strata townhouse stock through Clayton, Willowbrook and Cloverdale follows a consistent design: three storeys over a tandem garage, a gate at the entrance, internal aisles built to the minimum width, and visitor parking clustered near the front rather than beside your unit. The result is stairs on every single trip and a longer carry than the floor plan implies. Neither is a problem when it is quoted for; both reliably blow an estimate built on square footage alone.
The semi-rural east and the far south
Out past Cloverdale and through the eastern edge, properties get larger and access gets more variable — longer private driveways, gravel surfaces in places, and ground that softens after a wet week. At the other end of the city, South Surrey and the Crescent Beach and Ocean Park areas are established detached neighbourhoods where the constraint is simply distance from everything else. Both are routine work; both want a conversation about access and travel before the day rather than on it.
How Long a Surrey Move Takes

Do you move to and from South Surrey and White Rock?
Yes, regularly. They sit at the far southern end of the city, which shows up as a larger travel block on the quote rather than a different hourly rate. The housing there skews to larger detached homes, so these are usually 3- or 4-mover jobs. Ask for the travel figure specifically when you compare quotes — on a move this far south it is the number most worth checking, and the one most often folded quietly into an inflated hourly rate.
Can you move a Cloverdale acreage or a gated townhouse complex?
Both, and they need opposite kinds of planning. Cloverdale and the eastern edge run semi-rural, with longer private driveways and properties where the truck may not reach the door in wet weather — we ask about the surface and length when quoting. The newer townhouse complexes have the reverse problem: a gate, an internal aisle sized for cars, and visitor parking well back from the units. Give us the complex name and gate arrangements at booking and both stop being problems.
Do you provide packing services in Surrey?
Yes. We pack full or partial and supply the materials — boxes, bubble wrap, mattress bags. The packing is done by your moving crew on the same clock at the same rate, never as a separate hourly line. A packed job takes longer, so we quote the higher total hours upfront and there is no materials fee.
