Yes. Boss Moving crews work 7 days a week, 7am to 10pm, long weekends and statutory holidays included, at the same published rates — $140/hr for 2 movers and a truck, 2-hour minimum, no weekend premium. What actually limits a Saturday move in Vancouver is not the crew. It is the building you are leaving, the building you are arriving at, and the date on the calendar. Here is how to work all three.
Why Saturdays and Month-End Book Out First
Vancouver leases turn over on the first of the month, so the last few days of every month — and the weekend nearest them — carry a disproportionate share of the city's moves. The end of June and the end of September are the busiest moving days in BC: the school year and the rental year both roll over, and every mover's schedule and every condo building's service elevator fill at the same time.
That is the whole reason a Saturday can be hard to get. It is not that movers keep weekday hours; it is that a Saturday at month-end is the single date everyone wants. A Saturday in the middle of the month is a different proposition — usually easier to book than the Friday before a long weekend.
Do Moving Companies Charge More on Weekends?
Some do, as a percentage on the hourly rate or a flat weekend charge. Boss Moving does not. The rate card is the rate card: $105/hr for one mover, $140/hr for two, $195/hr for three, $239/hr for four, on any day the crew works. The 2-hour minimum is the same, the travel block is the same, and there is no charge for fuel, stairs, elevator, mileage on a Saturday any more than on a Wednesday.
When you compare weekend quotes, ask two questions: is this the weekday figure, and what is the minimum? A quote that looks lower on the hourly rate can carry a four-hour weekend minimum, which on a one-bedroom move is the whole difference. Ours stays at 2 hours. The cost guide walks through the whole bill line by line.
Can Movers Work Weekends in My Strata Building?
This is the question that decides most weekend moves in Vancouver, and it is one only your building can answer. Strata corporations set the hours in which moves may happen, and they vary: many towers allow Saturday moves in a booked elevator window and refuse Sundays; some allow neither; some do not mind as long as the service elevator is reserved and a Certificate of Insurance is on file. The rules are in your building's bylaws or with the strata manager, and they are enforced by the concierge on the day.
So the order of operations is: check the building's moving hours, book the service elevator for the weekend slot you want, then book the crew inside that window. We provide the Certificate of Insurance to your strata at no charge and plan the load around the booked window — the condo moving page covers the whole routine, including what to do if the elevator booking slips.
Sundays and Statutory Holidays
Sunday is a normal working day for the crew: same hours, same rates. In a house or a townhouse there is nothing else to check. In a strata building, Sunday is the day most often restricted, so it is worth a call to the building before it becomes the plan.
Long weekends and statutory holidays are worked too, at the same published rates. The only difference a holiday makes is demand: a long weekend in summer concentrates a month of lease turnovers into three days, so those dates go first and go early.
Weekend Moves on Short Notice
Same-week and same-day moves do happen — they depend on whether a crew is free once the jobs already booked for that day are accounted for, and that is arithmetic, not policy. A mid-month Saturday sometimes has room in the same week. A month-end Saturday almost never does. Either way the answer comes from the schedule, which means a phone call: the quote form returns a written estimate quickly, but it cannot tell you whether Saturday is open. Ring (604) 726-9828 and you get a yes or a no against the real day. The last-minute movers page explains what the crew needs to know to answer.
How to Lock In a Weekend Move
Book two to three weeks ahead for a standard weekend; four to six for a month-end Saturday, and more for the end of June or September. A $100 deposit confirms the date — it comes off your final invoice, and it is fully refundable with 3 or more days' notice, so holding a Saturday early costs you nothing if plans change. Rescheduling is free.
Then make the Saturday itself short. A two-bedroom on the 2-mover crew runs 5–6 hours — $700–$840 in labour — and everything that trims it is in your hands the week before: boxes packed, drawers emptied, the elevator booked, the route from the door to the truck clear. The move-prep guide is the list. If the date is flexible at all, the best time to move in Vancouver shows which weeks give you the crew and the elevator without the competition.
Common questions
Do movers work on weekends in Vancouver?
Yes. Boss Moving crews work 7 days a week, 7am to 10pm, including long weekends and statutory holidays, at the same published hourly rates. Saturdays and month-end dates book out first, so the earlier you reserve, the more likely the date is yours.
Do moving companies charge more on weekends?
Boss Moving does not. $140/hr for 2 movers and a truck is the rate on a Saturday, a Sunday, a long weekend and a Tuesday alike, with the same 2-hour minimum and the same travel block. Some companies do add a weekend premium, so when you compare quotes, ask whether the figure is the weekday figure.
Do movers work on Sundays?
Yes — Sunday is a normal working day for the crew, same hours, same rates. The constraint is more often the building: a number of strata buildings restrict or refuse Sunday moves, so if you live in one, check the building's moving hours before you pick the day.
Do movers work on statutory holidays?
Yes. Long weekends and statutory holidays are worked at the same published rates as any other day. The only date-related question is availability, because a long weekend concentrates a month of lease turnovers into three days.
How far ahead should I book a Saturday move?
Two to three weeks out for a standard move; four to six for a month-end Saturday, and more for the end of June or the end of September, the busiest moving days in BC. In a condo building the service elevator often books out before we do, so book the elevator the same day you book the crew.
Can I get movers this weekend on short notice?
Sometimes. Same-week and same-day moves happen when a crew is free once the jobs already booked are accounted for, and there is no honest way to promise one in advance. Call (604) 726-9828 and you get a straight yes or no against the actual schedule — the quote form cannot tell you whether Saturday is open.
